Canon: Fate/Grand Order | After the "Christmas in the Underworld" event, but before being summoned in Chaldea.
Age: 50 000+
Background Information: Wiki Link
Personality: Ereshkigal's entire character is defined by the fate that was ordained upon her: to never leave the Underworld and care for the dead until the end of time. A task she is to take care of alone, with for only help GallĂ» Spirits. Her realm is a desolate one where nothing can ever grow, where nothing can ever change. Her duties are beyond what one single god should be able to handle, vast as the task is. Most gods would have rebelled against such a fate and fought against it. Ereshkigal did not. She accepted it and took an oath of her own to never leave, to never help the living and uphold her duties till the very end. Unlike her sister who embodies freedom and the willpower to break the rules, Ereshkigal will never defy her fate and fight against her "imprisonment."
It is important to note none of the GallĂ» Spirits under her command are shown to behave as individuals and she cannot understand the Souls of the Dead. This alone is a source of anguish, as she wishes she could understand them if only to better accommodate them. She can tell what they were in life and resonate with their emotions to an extent, that's it. But more importantly, that makes the sheer loneliness of her situation nigh absolute. Perhaps it would be easier if humans worshiped her or other gods tried helping her. But no. Because it was believed in her pantheon that speaking the name of a god would draw said god's attention, nobody talked of her. Worse, she was reviled as an evil goddess for her role. Humans and gods alike favored ignoring her and treating her like a pariah in the hopes of delaying their death for as long as possible.
And believe it: that's been making her miserable beyond belief. This resulted in Ereshkigal feeling abandoned and unloved. She put all of her worth into her work hoping someday she would be praised and commended for never faltering, yet such a day never came. She hates her fate, she hates loneliness, she hates how cruel her life is. But more than anything, she hates herself. She hates how she has never fought against it, how even now she couldn't dream of fighting against it. Legendary is the rivalry between her and her sister, but it was never truly Ishtar whom she hated. It was the injustice and unfairness she represented, the ideal she aspired to and could never hope to reach.
She is often described as a "sheltered young lady" and perhaps appropriately, Ereshkigal is a hopeless romantic. She has access to human books that somehow fell in the Underworld, and they're her main source of knowledge as to what the outside world is like. Needless to say, she is awkward and has difficulties with social interactions. Craving approval and love as she does, she is the very picture of anxiety and dreads rejection the most. She tends to be very theatrical and rehearses a lot so she can project the image of a cool goddess who is worth befriending and loving. She will avoid crying in front of other people and desperately project this image of who she believes can earn people's love. But who would ever love a gloomy and evil goddess like her?
Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands years passed. And nobody did. She keeps lying to herself, telling herself she is happy. But it's just a lie, a facade she keeps on so she doesn't lose all and any will to live.
Indeed, her despair over the situation borders on suicidal, with her duties being the only thing that keep her going. In spite of everything, she loves humans and refuses to let them down. It was only when manipulated into thinking she was not the best ruler of the Underworld that she attempted to take her own life, as the only reason for her to keep on going was no longer there. If someone else could do her job better than her, then she would let them and she would die so she can finally end her torment.
But someone saved her from this manipulation. Ritsuka Fujimaru, the last master of humanity whom she befriended and fell in love with. Because they are the first person to have ever shown kindness to her, she has become very dependent on them. So long as Ritsuka believes in her, she has reasons to keep going and hope for a happy ending. Her feelings for them are something she has decided to keep hidden, and she is "happy" with that. Not as happy as she would be if they were together in a romantic relationship, of course. But to have a precious friend who would risk their life to save her? To have someone whom she loves? It is more precious than anything she has known over the course of her entire existence.
It used to be nothing but unrealistic dreams. Fantasies she conjured to lie to herself. But now it's no longer a lie. Thanks to Ritsuka and this new human vessel, she can leave the underworld. She knows that, maybe, there is a happy ending in store for her. And even if there is not...
She wants to try, where before she never even entertained the thought.
Abilities & Inventory: Wiki List
Being a goddess, Ereshkigal is obviously very powerful but all of her skills are severely nerfed by three factors. For one, she's a lot weaker when outside of the Underworld. For two, she's now a Servant. And for three I guess, none of those are her real skills but dreamotion-fueled imitations? As far as items are concerned are concerned:
- Her clothes (she can magically change her attires)
- A cage
- Her weapon, which is also the authority of the Sun God Nergal
- Her crown, which holds a gloomier version of Ishtar's authority
- A baby deer that follows her everywhere
Her dream is to find a way to create a flower through dreamotion, one that can grows even in the Underworld, and find a way to send it to her other self in her homeworld so she can finally fulfill her dream of having an underworld filled with flowers.
Suitability & Plans: Ereshkigal needs vacations. The problem is that she'll guilt a lot over the fact that she's in this world having fun while her duties are left unattended... But that's not a problem here since her other self is still in her homeworld doing what she has to! The concept of avatars / astral projection / subconscious etc is very common to Gods, so she'll be overjoyed she can enjoy herself without actually endangering the dead.
The goal is for her to discover what it's like to live a (somewhat) normal life and being able to make friends. She'll still be an anxious and dramatic mess, but at least that's an unique chance for her. While she is very reliant on Ritsuka, it'll do her good to learn how to enjoy life without them. And the whole concept of the game means she'll be able to explore her feelings and traumas in ways she could never before.
Test Drive Sample: Sample (you may include more)
Questions: With a lot of work, dedication and efforts, will her dream of sending back home an Underworld-growing flower created through dreamotion be realizable? She'll keep trying even if it's impossible, but it's just to know how I should play this aspect out, thank you!
